The Early Bird and all that Jazz

It's check-in day for JuNoWriMo.  And I have to say I've had a great week keeping up with the challenge.  I wasn't sure at first, but now that I'm in up to my chin, I'm okay with the deep end--even with all the craziness of life making waves.

So, how did I stay on track?

I got up earlier every day (as in 4:45 a.m. oh-my-God it's early!).  And surprise, surprise. . .it worked.  Why?  Well, I discovered combining the following makes for a pretty good receipe.

One. . .a still, quiet house.
Two. . .no pitter-pattering of little feet.
Three. . .a dog who lies under my desk and keeps my feet warm (even though he gives me a dirty look when the alarm goes off.  Now, if that isn't true love, nothing is).
Four. . .man, there just isn't anything else to do that freakin' early, so might as well stick with the program.
And five?. . .my muse is a morning person.  Who knew, right?

Okay, enough with the blah-blah-blahing.  Let's get down to it.

My goal is 1000 words a day.  Every day.  And I came in at. . .drum roll, please. . .

8047 words.  Hoorah!  Gold star for me (and some celebratory chocolate. . .naturally).

So, how was your week?  Did you get what you wanted accomplished?

  1. I've learned--finally!--that it's best if I start writing in the morning, before I can talk myself into doing other stuff. I'm a nightowl, so I don't get up as early as you do, but I always feel better when I get my writing done first thing. I usually end up going back to it later, too, so it's a great way to double my productivity. :) Congrats on your word count!

  2. I works midnights, so on my days off, I'm up in the wee hours. That's always the best time for me. It's even better in the summer because I can sit outside at two or three in the morning and just write.

    Congrats on reaching your goals!

  3. Haha! You've clearly kept your sense of humour even after all them words! Great job reaching the goal, in fact, let me have a piece of chocolate to celebrate with you. yum

I catch up on correspondence in the am before work. Agent hunt and edit at lunch, and write and edit, or blog (shh) at night. I love writing in the heart of the night the best, and if I could give up sleep I would. Glad your muse found you too.

  5. Wow, way to go! I'm seriously impressed you got up that early, and I'm glad it's working for you. I might be tempted to try it myself, just to see if mornings are easier than nights.

  6. I'm doing a happy dance for you. I am not a morning person but discovered my muse is for all the same reasons you listed right down to the dirty look from the dog.

Congratulations on your progress. Keep it up!

  8. So, I'm a little late in the congradulations for exceeding your goal...but YAY!

I was hoping to have the first draft of my current WIP done by the end of this month, but I've only 10 days left and approx 30K to go. Not that it's impossible for me to pull off 3K a day average...but I'm not going to hold my breath. *sigh* Darn the rest of life for getting in the way of writing time.

  9. I wake up at 6 am every day to start my writing/revisions before the rest of my home wakes up. Works great.

This weekend, I managed to stay away from my revisions.

Still trying to work out how to get everything done.

    :-)
