Time: the Ultimate Commodity

I got up early to vaccum today. Yeah, I know. . .Go me. But, really, neglecting my house in April when I've got a one hundred pound golden retriever shedding like a hound from hell? Not a good idea. Yikes, even the dust bunnies gave me dirty looks this morning.

Okay, I could make all kinds of excuses. Believe me, I want to, but, honestly? What good will that do? Not one of those but-but-buts will land me in a magically clean house or put me on the right road.

I guess, then, it all comes down to time management. Uh-huh, I know. I hate that term too. It's overused and annoying as hell. . .especially if you're not doing it well.

I console myself with the fact that although my house looks like a train wreak (most of the time) at least I'm getting the important stuff right. Things like: quality family and friend time, kick-ass writing time, the recommended amount of shut-eye. . .well, okay, almost every night.

So, despite the dust bunnies, I'm doing all right. Because, hey, I'm only one person and sometimes, the healtiest thing to do is prioritized--find the top three to five things--and let everything else slide.

  1. Well as the Stones said, "Time is on my side."

Hee hee, the word verification was "frangat." Doesn't that sound like some old-timey swear word? Frangat!

  4. I hear yah, Lindsay. That's why denial is a great tool. Ignore everything that isn't important, and voila....you're golden! (:

  5. Especially in denial stays a river in Egypt. For me things wouldn't be golden but collie, since he sheds as bad as your golden

  6. I read this article yesterday about how one percent of the population can get by with six hours of sleep or less. They are super productive as it simply gives them more hours per day to do stuff in. Then there are those that "think" that they can get buy on this amount of sleep but they are lying to themselves and are always tired, etc. I'm a person that "requires" at least eight hours or I'm a non-functioning zombie. Your post just reminded me of this and how crucial time management can be.

  7. "Time management" does have an annoying sound to it. LOL I try to do a triage thing where I decide what is a hangnail and what is a heart attack, so I can plan accordingly. But it seems like avoidance and time wasting always find their way to the top of the list!

  8. Michael....you're so right. Getting enough sleep is half the battle. I know a couple of people who function well on five or six hours a night, no problem. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them!

And Donna....triage sounds about right! lol.

  9. I couldn't agree more!! As long as your spending time with the ones you love and taking care of what needs to be taken care of...the rest can slide. This philosophy goes along with my procrastinatory habits nicely. :)

  10. E.C. ~ I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who has trouble getting everything done in the day. My house always takes a backseat to everything else. At least it doesn't talk back to me when I neglect it!

  11. I really suck at time management, I've decided. I try to cram 30 hours worth of stuff into every 24 hours. It's my own fault, but I'm still disappointed when I don't get all of the writing, etc. done that I want.

  12. And the more projects I have, even in some cases very little one, the faster the day goes by do I end up working late into the night

  13. I know...it's so hard to manage it all. That's why I let the little stuff slide sometimes. It so much easier to make bigger inroads on the things that really matter when I'm not pulled in twenty different directions. And honestly, I'm not very efficient in the evening...my brain goes dark about seven p.m.!! (:
